GIMP 2.8
For the last couple of weeks I have been looking at the GIMP 2.8 photo editing software. It is a bit of an adjustment from Adobe Photoshop, but I am starting to get a handle on it. I ordered a book and I am finding that almost everything I can do in Photoshop can be done using GIMP.
The big advantage to GIMP is that it is free. One way or another Adobe will get hundres of dollars a year from you so if you are a student or just starting out, you might consider trying GIMP. I am going to offer it as an alternative in my college level photography classes.
There are many great tutorials available on YouTube and you can also get training on Lynda.com, although I have not found anything for GIMP 2.8, just previous version. I am sure someone will produce something for them soon.
GIMP is available for Macintosh, Windows and Linux. You can find it at gimp.org.
